Hospice is designed to care for people with a terminal illness who are not expected to live more than 6 months, and is covered by Medicare. This coverage includes:
- Drugs for symptoms of the illness and pain relief
- Medical and support services from a Medicare-approved hospice provider
- Grief counseling, and other services that Medicare does not otherwise cover
This care is available at your residence, whether that is your home, a nursing home, or in a hospice care facility. If your primary caregiver is a family member or friend, there is also short-term hospital stays and inpatient care to provide caregiver respite.
Medicare will not cover any of the personal care services listed as ADLs, or any of the everyday tasks listed as IADLs previously mentioned.
